- Wood from near Hearth C-1. The charcoal occurred in the fill of a trough-like depression in the upper erosion surface and was overlain by stratigraphic units 5 and 6. Though not from a discrete hearth, its assoc. with oxidized soil suggests that it burned in situ, evidence for a cultural origin includes a flake knife and the tip of a perforating tool. These were found 1.0 cm and 0.5 cm, respectively, above the upper surface of the sample. Punctate sherds were recovered within 30 cm of the sample. However, soot from the sherds (AMS) gave a much more recent date, and the date from this feature should not be used to date the sherd
