Context
Feature 2, a large pit in Block 1. Date is on a bulk soil sample and charcoal. Meas. a max. of 69 cm in dia., 19 cm deep. Originated 221 cm below the site datum in Stratum 1. A formally prepared rock-lined pit with shallow, sloping sides. Extreme oxidation was noted at the wall, base , and adjoining surfaces. Fill included highly oxidized FCR in a dense concentration, small pieces of charcoal, and charcoal-stained black sandy loam. Yielded 68 FCRs, a mano frag. Interpreted as a formal roasting pit , but no info on what was prepared in the feature--probably floral resources, given the lack of bone. Assigned to the Formative era component.
