- GdEl-4, Lac Delorme: Both prehistoric and historic period Amerindian materials are present. Comments by D. Denton: Area A. This portion of the site consists of four aligned hearths that were used within a single house (structures A, B, C, D) and structure E, a hearth which may be associated with another occupation of the site. While we accept the date (Beta-10376) as plausible, we cannot rule out the possibility that the occupation is somewhat younger. Both the longhouse and structure E can be argued to be "relatively old" on the basis of the partial reabsorption of the hearths and the poor faunal preservation. Area B. QU-1411 clearly refers to the most recent historic occupation of the site. The largest part of the artifactual material (all of the lithics) is associated with an earlier occupation. While the context of QU-1401 is not ideal, and QU-1400 is somewhat worse, we are relatively confident, given the evidence from GcEl-5, GcEl-19a, GcEl-14, as well as from GaFf-1, in the LG-4 area, that these dates correctly place the site at the earlier end of the cultural sequence in the area. We argue for the provisional acceptance of the dates.
