- Comments
- EcJs-1, Allen: At least three stratigraphically distinct occupation episodes were documented in Trench A. The uppermost is unknown prehistoric, the second appears to be Laurel, while the third or oldest may be related to the early Archaic Caribou Lake complex. The Archaic component is associated with buried organic horizons that are thought to be the source of distinctive trihedral adzes found along the beach in front of the test trench. Lanceolate points found on the beach surface and in a 1996 test unit provide evidence of a late Palaeoindian presence at this site, but the trihedral adzes found in situ have not been found in Palaeoindian contexts and imply an Early Archaic affiliation.
