Comments
DkKp-8, Ballynacree: Components of Laurel, Selkirk, Blackduck, and both French and English Fur Trade are present on this site. Laurel house floors with unusually late dates are of particular importance. "These dates have raised many an eyebrow among Laurel researchers as they are the latest dates for Laurel processed to date, extending the range for Laurel possibly into the thirteenth century, overlapping with Late Woodland Blackduck sites in the area by as much as 300 years" (Reid and Rajnovich, 1991: 198). In her review of Laurel ceramics, Brandzin-Low (1997: Table 7.7) notes that the Laurel dates at this site are associated with all of the Laurel ceramic types, with dentate pottery predominant.
