- Comments
- AfHf-10, Harrietsville: I-12477 is considered slightly older than expected; ceramic seriation suggests an age within the 15th century A.D. Cooper and Savage (1994: 40) note that many faunal specimens were fragmentary due to farming activity. Deer were probably butchered off-site. Dog is noticeably absent. Study of the floated fraction (30%) increased the importance of fish remains by 80%. Five artifacts include a modified deer phalanx and an awl. Fauna: Pisces: Catostomidae, Ictalurus punctatus; cultigen: Zea mays 1641, Phaseolus vulgaris 3, Helianthus annuus 7, Nicotiana rustica 4; Flora: Portulaca oleracea 22, Polygonum sp 18, Chenopodium sp 43, Gramineae 1, Rubus sp 2078, Sambucus sp 474, Fragaria sp 150, Crataegus sp 1, Rhus sp 12, Physalis sp 21, Aralia racemosa cf. 15, unidentified 74, Fagus grandifolia 11.6 g, Acer saccarum 26.1, Fraxinus sp 0.9, Ostrya virginiana 0.1, Ulmus americana 5.1, Betula sp 0.1, unidentified 1.6
