- SfFk-5, Sverdrup: It consists of a large Thule winter settlement on a gravel beach overlooking the remains of one of Sverdrup's temporary camps. At least 20 winter house ruins are constructed from sod, stone and many bowhead whale bones. Tent rings, kayak supports, shelters and caches indicate use of the area during the summer months as well. Five dwellings and two semi-subterranean meat caches were completely excavated, and one dwelling (House 6) is assigned to the Ruin Island phase, as it differs in construction style and artifact inventory from the other houses. Houses 7 and 8 are thought to have been occupied at about the same time, and the willow wood date (GSC-3007) on House 7 appears to be more than a century too old, possibly reflecting the selection of dead, dry willow for use as fuel.
