- KjHq-no #, Manico Point: A peat bed, 2-5 cm thick, overlies a thick bed of well-rounded gravel, apparently outwash, but underlies sand and coarse slabby gravel containing shells of ~Mytilus edulis<. The shelly bed is overlain by beach ridges of a 15 m terrace. The peat bed was probably below sea level, and the 15 m terrace was formed, when Dorset people occupied the island. Sadlermiut remains are on a lower, 7.5 m terrace with one abandoned Sadlermiut village being only 1.6 km away. The peat bed antedates and should provide a maximum age for Sadlermiut culture on the island and should provide a minimum age for Dorset culture.
