- Comments
- KkDo-1, Peale Point: This is a Neoeskimo winter village site, located on a small island, 9 m asl, consisting of 11 houses as well as tent rings, caches, etc. Stenton hypothesized that there were two periods of construction of House 7 and selected two samples to test this hypothesis. S-2485, from the surface of a paved floor in the "earlier" section of the house, provides no support and is presumed to be contaminated. S-2486, from the surface of a paved floor in the central living area, would place House 7 within the range of the early Thule period, ca. AD 1000-1200. Stenton notes "There is no evidence to support such an early occupation, and I feel my original estimate better describes the age of the structure. The date is rejected as being impossibly early." Jacobs and Stenton (1985) present faunal analyses but no radiocarbon dates for Houses 2, 3, 5, 8, and 11.
