- McVh-VP, Whitestone mammoth: Much of the skeleton of an adult female woolly mammoth was collected by C.R. Harington and P. Lord in 1967. Peat associated with the mammoth bones yielded a date of 40,600 +/- 1520 BP (GSC-2929). The peat was sampled to obtain palaeoenvironmental information about the region where the mammoth died. In view of its much older age, the peat sample does not fulfill this requirement, but the peat date is reasonable if the mammoth died after becoming mired and sinking into a peat bog deposit that had been laid down much earlier.
