- Comments
- KaVn-2, Moose Lake: The site lies about 1 km inside the limit of late Wisconsinan glaciation, and it became ice-free around 11,000 years ago. The site is located on a sand terrace, probably of glaciofluvial origin. Testing by Keary Walde, who discovered the site, resulted in five radiocarbon dates. Subsequent work by Ty Heffner has resulted in two more dates, both from the Waikato, New Zealand, laboratory. Wk-7840 is anomalous in relation to the stratigraphy and is interpreted as the result of root burn during a forest fire. Wk-7841 dates the onset of loess deposition and provides the maximum age for the first human occupation of the site.
