- Rolled birch bark from cache feature. Chris Houlette field notes 2010: Sample is from "...one of the features originally identified as a cache pit (Kunz map feature C). Approximately 60cm below a level line set by CC (see CC notes and profile) we discovered a heavy charcoal layer overlain by a layer of birch bark, all of which overlay a gravelly soil. Mixed within a dark organic soil matrix above the charcoal a long bone fragment and several tightly rolled strips of birch bark were recovered. It appeared that the pit was dug out, lined with flattened birch bark and possibly used for smoking or storing cooked meat?"
