- Comments
- DeKq-3, Hungry Hall: S-894 dates construction of Mound 1 and a collection of 18 complete ceramic vessels. S-109 dates Mound 2. Both dates have previously been assigned to the Blackduck horizon, and both are now considered to represent the Rainy River composite. In their summary of the faunal remains from Mound 1, Cooper and Savage (1994: 44) state that due to the mixture of material from two mound phases and the varied origin of the fill in which specimens were found, inferences on seasonality are limited. They also note that the bison elements (phalanges) could have come from a skin traded in or from hunting south of Rainy River. A preliminary study of the fish bones reveals both spring and autumn spawners. One artifact is an awl made on a dog ulna.
