- AdHo-5, Crawford Knoll: Cooper and Savage (1994: 22) note that Cooper analyzed specimens surface-collected in 1978, many of them partly permineralized with recovery probably biased in favour of sturdy bones. Large mammals, particularly white-tailed deer which may have been butchered off-site, appear as primary hunting quarries. The evidence also suggests spearing of large drum and sturgeon in spring/summer/autumn. Thomas' data from 1979 excavations suggest frequent seasonal re-use of the site throughout the year, and he discusses species utilization patterns, including ceremonialism. Muskrat remains indicate a major procurement in early spring when they may have been a key resource at a time of generally low productivity.
