feature 28, hearth in pithouse, Sopris phase. Feature 28 pithouse, located on a slope ca. 33 ft W of Mound B. No info on the precise provenience of the 14C sample.The pithouse mMeas. ca. 9 ft in dia., 1.9 ft deep. It has an elevated entrance ramp entering the structure from the S. Ramp meas. 8.5 ft in length, 2 ft wide. Both the structure and ramp were rather amorphous in form. Floor was burned, covered with ash, charcoal, and burned beam frags. No daub to indicate a jacal type structure. It had a central hearth, collared, meas. ca. 4.5 ft in dia. 10 ft deep (this really is what the note says about the measurement. Hearth walls were oxidized. Also had a collared storage bin excavated into the E wall. Ceramics indicate Initial Sopris phase (AD 1000-1100.
