- Context
- 3N/1W, 23-28 cm depth, base of the fill of hearth A, a depression in the upper surface of stratigraphic unit 4. Charcoal is from upper of 2 superimposed hearths at archaeological site 5BL70, Albion Ridge (Olson 1969). The charcoal grades laterally into a buried A1 horizon, which is overlain by colluvium, and is separated from the lower charcoal accumulation by sterile eolian (?) sand. A date of 7650 +/- 190 BP (I-3266) for the lower charcoal brackets deposition of the sand, which is thought to relate to the Altithermal maximum. I-3023 provides an age for late Altithermal soil formation on a solifluction terrace and for occupation of the site by the Mount Albion complex (Benedict 1970a)
