- Additional information
- Collected from the middle of a hearth feature (Feature 2), that is associated with many Ramah chert flakes. There are two further hearths at this site and Ramah chert scatters throughout. The submitted sample is directly associated with Ramah chert flakes. The enclosing material was dry when collected but roots, sand particles and crushed bone particles are associated with the sample. FbAx is a surface manifestation. The hearth feature from which the charcoal was collected appears as a slight mound on the existing beach surface, overgrown by a thin layer of reindeer moss (Cladonia) and bunch berries (Cornus canadensis). The mounding of the hearth feature is the result of a mass of blackened soil, sand, crushed bone, charred wood, and fire cracked rocks. Roots that have grown into the hearth are those of bunch berries.
