- Additional information
- Collected from Test Pit 5, situated along the north edge of Bertha William's abandoned garden in Hare Harbour. The sample was recovered from a dry lense of charcoal 19 cm below surface, within a dry sandy matrix. The sample was associated with a dense concentration of Ramah chert flakes (ca. 280 flakes). The enclosed material was dry when collected, but roots, sand grains, and crushed bone particles may be associated with the sample. The sample was processed twelve years after collection, but was still in its original collection bag. Test Pit 5 was in a portion of the site not disturbed by gardening. It was located at the base of a terrace that marks the back edge of today's beach (and also marks an isostatically raised former beach line). According to the lab report, no carbonates where present in the sample.
