Comments
GcBi-12, East Pompey Island 1: GSC-1367 is not from a specific archaeological feature but from cultural layers generally 15-41 cm beneath the tundra surface on either side of a small pond. A peaty zone 5-20 cm thick overlay the cultural deposit. The Dorset assemblage from this site is similar in all respects to the collection from the Ticoralak-5 site (GbBn-7). Fitzhugh notes that GSC-1367 is within the general framework of other Dorset site dates in the area and re-emphasizes the early period of Dorset occupation in Groswater Bay. The site elevation is above that of nearby Rattlers Bight-1 Maritime Archaic, and it indicates the site's remoteness from the active beach line during its occupation.
