- Feature 1 was a "burned area" or hearth. Sequence of burned strata suggests multi-use hearth. Cremated remains of young adult (possibly female) recovered, not clear whether cremated here or elsewhere and then deposited here. Remains apparently recovered from top of hearth, the portion which would have been the surface at the time of the deposition of the remains. Butternut frags, a calcined mole jaw. acorns, 2 chert flakes, 2 unifacial lithic scrapers, and the tip of a calcined bone tool were also recovered. Report: "Probably" dates to late Middle Woodland Period. 1 FCR and a chert flake were recovered from the stratified sand below the hearth and are probably not associated with Feature 1.
