- Comments
- BeDq-11, Newton's Point: The site is a heavily eroded coastal site. Initially, in 1869, it was recorded as a shell midden. Now the cultural material is found in a single stratigraphic layer which is almost completely free of faunal remains (including shell), overlain by 20 to 40 cm of culturally sterile sandy loam and sod, and underlain by culturally sterile orange-brown sandy soil. The cultural material is found in shell-free dark brown organic soil, and consists primarily of lithic artifacts and debitage, and several oval basin-shaped features. These features contain black organic soil and scattered wood charcoal. Based on the excavated portion of the site, it seems to be a single component site, dating to the Late Maritime Woodland (or Ceramic) period.
