Context
Feature 1, exposed in the N wall of the excavation unit, 35 cm bmgs. This date is from the lower fill Appeared to represent a hearth or baking pit, with walls and floor lined with flattened, reddened and blackened quartzite cobbles. Feature had undergone 2 separate use episodes. the Upper, more recent period considted of lightly stained sediment with charcoal flecks and some quartzite flakes. This was underlain by a thin layer of homogenous orange brown sediment with more quartzite flakes. Under this was a lens of dark, charcoal stained soil laying directly on top of the rock floor. No artifacts.
