- GSC-2976 Comment (D.E. Howes): The C-14 date obtained from these marine silts is the first one from the west coast of Vancouver Island to document that deglaciation of Fraser Glaciation ice had commenced prior to 13 000 years ago. Relative sea level at this time was at least > 25 m. Maximum sea level at Hesquiat Harbour is approximately 32 to 34 m above present sea level (Howes, 1981a; Clague et al., 1982).
